The Internet is Changing Environmental Management

Acanac Scholarship Contest

It is undeniable that High Speed Internet has been a revolutionary technological advancement for anyone pursuing higher learning in their respective field of interest. It is now possible to conduct research and access information at lightning speed. For my chosen field of study, Environmental Management, the Internet has been an invaluable resource that has made it possible for students and professionals to access important information and learn about developments in the environmental field, which results in continual development and growth of the knowledge base that this field is based upon.

The ubiquity of data and information that is freely and readily accessible to anyone online who wishes to use it for research, planning and policy making would not be possible without the Internet. For instance, data recorded from satellites that is available online is used in the environmental field to assess changes in the health of our planet with respect to factors such as pollution and climate change.

Several websites are available that also use this data, which are dedicated to educating others about pressing environmental concerns that exist, and potential solutions that can be used to remedy these problems.

The possibility of connecting with other environmental professionals and enthusiasts worldwide has enhanced efforts to promote global cooperation with respect to environmental protection. Social Media has been a major influence in the environmental movement, and allows individuals, organizations and community groups to connect, and share knowledge and resources that can be used for environmental management in various ways. Some examples include promoting classes for individuals who wish to learn about building renewable energy technology, and community groups who use Social Media platforms to promote awareness about environmental injustices happening, in order for more people to take a stand and speak out against the destruction of our planet.

Essay by Shanaz, Acanac Scholarship Contest Finalist

Acanac Scholarship Contest

In line with our mission of making things easy and saving money for Canadians, Acanac launched our very first scholarship contest over the summer of 2017.

We asked students across Ontario and Quebec to let us know how High Speed Internet has impacted their field of study by either writing a short essay or sharing a video with us on our Facebook or Twitter pages for a chance to win $1,000.

After reviewing hundreds of contest entries, our selection committee chose 5 finalists. We hope you enjoyed Shanaz’s essay and invite you to explore our Blog to learn more about all our finalists.
